Restore the natural-looking aesthetics and the functions to your teeth at Emerald Dental Care in Thornhill
You had a bad day; you sustained trauma to your teeth. What should you do to minimize the damage? Time and time again, dentists have seen that the most critical first step to trauma control is an immediate examination. General dentists can treat dental injuries since they are trained in endodontics (treating traumatic dental injuries). However, general dentists often refer patients to a dedicated endodontist, highly skilled experts in treating traumatic injuries. A quick visit to an endodontist soon after an injury dramatically increases the chances of saving the injured tooth.
Depending on the injury’s extent, regular checkups to the general dentist and or endodontist can be necessary for up to five years to ensure successful healing and that no root resorption occurs.
How is a tooth injury treated?
Here are four common cases of traumatic injury and a summary of how they are treated:
- Chipped/ fractured a tooth’s crown?
- Reattach missing piece.
- Apply a tooth-coloured filling.
- A large portion of the crown is chipped?
- .Apply a restoration “cap” or crown.
- Is tooth pulp damaged or exposed?
- .You may require root canal treatment.
- Injuries in the back teeth?
- .You may need a root canal & a full crown restoration.
Is the tooth pushed sideways or pushed into or out of the socket?
Your tooth will be repositioned and stabilized.
- You may need a root canal.
- You may need root canal fillings or dental crowns for restoration subsequently.
Visit an emergency dentist or endodontist IMMEDIATELY!
If you visit an emergency dental office within 30 minutes, the dentist may be able to save your tooth.
- The dentist will apply a stabilizing splint for the following weeks.
- You may need a root canal 1-2 weeks later.
Is your tooth horizontally fractured at the root?
The dentist will check the fracture; the closer to the tooth tip and farther from the gumline, the better.
- May require stabilization with a splint.
In the event of a traumatic injury to the teeth, please consider the following questions while on the way to the emergency dental clinic:
- Are there any central nervous system symptoms after the injury?
- Are there any disturbances when biting?
- Is the affected tooth sensitive to heat changes, or sweet and sour?
- Is the affected tooth sore while eating or getting touched?
- Is there spontaneous pain in the injured tooth?

Hear From our Happy Patients
My experience at Emerald Dental Care was excellent from beginning to end. The staff jumped through hoops to accommodate my special circumstances, and I wasn’t even a regular patient – it was my first time visiting the office. I called them explaining that my benefits were ending in a few days and that I was in a rush to get some complicated dental work done which my regular dentist couldn’t complete in time. The whole office pulled strings, strategized, and did whatever they could do to ensure the procedure was done on time. I’ve never felt so appreciated before by strangers. Besides their kindness and sincerity, they’re also highly professional: the procedure went perfectly. I highly recommend Emerald Dental Care.
Same Day Dental Crown (CEREC)
Today was my 2-year-old daughter’s first dental appointment. My wife and I were predicting to have a tough day but surprisingly Dr. Saeidi turned it to a very pleasant day using her professional skills and experiences. She did 2 dental fillings and complete exam and cleaning on her teeth and my daughter didn’t even move her head or didn’t even cry for a moment. I’m so glad that I have come to this dental office based on my friend’s referral and more importantly founded a very positive mentality for my daughter that I’m sure will last for good.
As a member of a large healthcare facility in Toronto, I can surely say; this dental office is going to be referred and held in the highest regard. The administration staff are welcoming and personable, the dental assistants are efficient and polite and Dr. Saeidi was compassionate, wonderful bedside manner, wonderful demeanor, succinct, and efficient. It was the best dental experience I have ever had and I will be recommending them to anyone I know that comes to me with a dental question. Thank you all!!!
